Singapore Carrier Waves Bye-Bye To High 3G Costs

Surf’s up and prices are down. Singapore’s M1 slashed the cost of surfing the Internet and accessing e-mail wirelessly in a move to align the benefits of 3G mobility with those of fixed-line broadband.

M1’s premium 3G SunSurf 100 data plan, previously priced at about $125 per month for unlimited use, has been ratcheted down 65 percent to just $42.45 a month, regardless individual or business contract. Couple this new pricing with the recent launch of the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card (VMCC) in country, and now M1 customers can connect wirelessly from their laptops. The VMCC card will be provided free of charge to M1 customers who sign up for the new SunSurf unlimited data plan.

M1 became Vodafone’s exclusive partner in Singapore and its first partner in the Asia-Pacific region when it signed a Partner Network Agreement in November 2003. Since then, M1 subscribers have had access to such services as Virtual Home Environment while roaming, and fast-tracked GPRS and 3G roaming with Vodafone partner networks. In February, M1 launched the Vodafone Data Roaming that offers a single data roaming tariff (with savings of as much as 60 percent for M1 customers in some 21 countries, it claims). [3G!]
