3G handsets have potential market in the region.
Asustek Computer will begin to ship two 3G handsets to O2 Asia Pacific this month, followed by Quanta Computer and Arima Communications, which will each ship a 3G device to the company, according to market sources.
The two models from Asustek are the O2 Xda Zinc PDA phone and the O2 Graphite smartphone, with both models featuring Xscale processors from Marvell and a 2-megapixel built-in camera, said the sources.
Quanta will deliver the Atom Life PDA phone to O2 Asia. The Atom Life is a successor to O2’s Atom and Atom Exec handsets and is able to support high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) technology, the sources noted, adding that the Atom Life features a processor with a core speed of 624MHz and 1GB of built-in memory, the sources indicated.
Arima Communications’ first 3G PDA phone for O2 Asia will be marketed as the Flame, said the sources, noting that the Flame supports a 520MHz core processor speed, a 2-megapixel camera, auto focus, up to 2GB of memory and a 3.6-inch VGA display.
