Pakistan to Introduce 3G
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the country is making substantial progress in the telecoms sector, with teledensity now at 22 per cent. PTA plans to complete preparatory work for 3G technology within the next six to eight months.
Pakistan had some 27 million mobile subscribers at the end of March, according to the PTA. The new Wireless Local Loop (WLL) service has also attracted 600,000 subscribers.
The PTA said that new telecoms players are making a positive impact on the market, bringing a range of telecom services to Pakistan. As the market continues to become more liberalised, telcos are beginning to introduce new technologies. [3G!]
