Taiwan Market: CHT Begins to Market Co-Branded 3G
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), the largest telecom operator in Taiwan, yesterday started marketing in Taiwan a co-branded version of the Nokia 6280 3G handset manufactured to its specifications, according to CHT sources.
To boost its penetration in the 3G segment, CHT will launch more co-branded 3G handsets, with a model to come from Asustek Computer in May, and a PDA phone and a smartphone from High Tech Computer (HTC) in June, the sources said.
A co-branded 3G handset displays CHT’s corporate logo on the front side of the handset, while the name of the contract maker appears on the back side of the device, the sources noted.
Contract makers may require a minimum order of up to 100,000 units for each customized handset, market sources estimated. CHT, however, declined to reveal order volumes placed with the three contract makers. [3G!]
