Philippines’ Smart Offers New 3G Services
The Philippines’s leading wireless services provider Smart Communications Inc. unveiled new 3G service offerings and announced the commercial rates for its 3G cellular service.
Starting May 1, Smart postpaid and prepaid subscribers with 3G-capable handsets will enjoy enhanced applications and extensive rich media content on a commercial basis. These include live TV streaming of two major television networks and 3G downloads of full music tracks and video clips.
With 800 cellsites covering 119 key cities and municipalities, Smart offers genuine nationwide 3G coverage. Smart was the first mobile operator in the country to commercially launch 3G services and the first to use a 3G network with HSDPA technology.
The Philippines’ 3G is a good sample for others ASEAN countries which soon to implement 3G services whether 3G W-CDMA and 3G 1xEV-DO.
For example, Indonesian’s five operators — Telkomsel, Indosat, Excecom, Cyber Access Communications and Natrindo Telepon Selular — who already awarded 3G W-CDMA licence from the government, haven’t announced yet their 3G services and contents so far. [3G!]
