1xEV-DO: You are your own hot-spot
If you’ve been in an airport, coffee shop, gym or hotel recently, chances are you’ve been right in the middle of a wireless network such as Wi-Fi or 802.11 networking. But, to some extent, the limited coverage of Wi-Fi can be problem. Moving around usually requires changing hot-spots, and if they’re run by different providers, it also means changing Internet access settings.
Fortunately, the solution is coming.
You’ll be able to use CDMA2000 1xEV-DO-based third generation (3G) technology inside your mobile phone: you will have wireless broadband Internet access from your Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux laptop without the need for a hot-spot! Insert an EVDO PC Card into your laptop and seconds later, you are connected to the Internet at DSL-like speeds (400K-700K).
