LAMPUNG, INDONESIA — Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, worked with Sampoerna Telekom (STI), Axesstel Inc., IndoNet, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the State Ministry for the Accelerated Development of Disadvantaged Regions to introduce CDMA450 wireless technology into Way Kanan, giving the area access to broadband wireless voice and data services.

“We are confident that greater access to wireless technology will enable better communication in rural communities and ultimately improve the lives of its residents, both economically and socially,” said Shawn A. Covell, senior director, International Government Affairs, Qualcomm.

CDMA450 provides an efficient wireless telecommunications solution by offering wide coverage, superior voice quality and high-speed data services.

“Sampoerna Telekom is pleased to be a part of this initiative. CDMA450 is an ideal telecommunications solution for Indonesia, especially given the country’s uniquely challenging terrain in rural areas,” said Michael Sampoerna, president director, Sampoerna Telekom. “STI believes that CDMA450 is an excellent proposition for the provision of wireless voice and data services in this region.”

Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach initiative seeks to connect communities that have limited or no telecommunications access through the use of 3G technologies. According to Harry K. Nugraha, Country Manager, Qualcomm Indonesia, the objective of this initiative is to strengthen economic and social development with a focus on education, government, healthcare and public safety.

Wireless Reach creates sustainable 3G projects through partnerships with non-government organizations, universities, government institutions, development agencies and other private sector companies.[3G]
