The future of TV will be personal

Personalisation and interactivity will be the key drivers of mobile TV according to a new report commissioned by Nokia and conducted by Dr Shani Orgad from the London School of Economics. The report, titled 'This Box Was Made For Walking', examines the future impact of mobile TV on the broadcasting and advertising industries. 3G coming to Libya

Libya is set to get its first 3G network, with the country’s second largest cellular operator Libyana rolling out a W-CDMA and HSDPA network covering 14 cities. Libyana has contracted ZTE of China to supply its 3G infrastructure. The new network will have an initial capacity of one million lines. State-owned Libyana had around 700,000 subscribers and a 40% share of the market at the end of June. Link

Homegrown 3G tech trial begins

A two-month trial of China's third generation mobile technology will begin on either Sunday or Monday in Beijing, Shanghai and three other cities in China, Sina.com reported today. TD-SCDMA, time division-synchronous code division multiple access, was developed in China and is one of the world's three next-generation mobile standards. Initially, the trial TD-SCDMA network will involve 20,000 users in Shandong Province's Qingdao City, Hebei Province's Baoding City and Xiamen City in Fujian Province. They will use new cell phone numbers beginning with 188 or 199 in the trial.
