The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a global tech policymaking group, has included the South Korea’s homegrown wireless Internet technology’s WiBro technology as one of its 3G communications standards.

It’s also meaning that other countries also could adopt this standard for their 3G technology solution, besides W-CDMA and 1xEV-DO.

Known also as mobile WiMAX, WiBro allows access to broadband Internet on the move.

KT Corp., the nation’s largest fixed-line telephony and Internet operator, launched commercial service of WiBro in the Seoul area in 2006.

Currently Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are unveiling diverse WiBro devices.
