Opera Widget for KDDI new handsets
Opera announced that KDDI, one of Japan’s mobile operators, will equipped Opera Widget into its new “au” handsets, Toshiba W56T, Sony Ericsson W54S, and Sanyo W54SA. It is the first widget implementation for mobile technology. The widget is branded “au one Gadget”.
What is this “au one Gadget”? It simply a web application made with open standard. User can download any kind of their favorite widget available into their handsets. The widget runs on device’s idle screen. It may provide instant access to services, like RSS feeds, game results, weather, stock, traffic information, news and more.
Takashi Nagashima from KDDI said that au on Gadget is an easy to use application platform for mobile application developer. Thus, third party may create their own widget services. The widget will be available in Japan by December 2007.
