Since the release of iPhone and its tangible user interface, the other smartphone makers have gotten the message. It is about time to rethink and reengineer their user interface.

Taiwan to spend $664 mln on WiMax

Taiwan is one of a few countries in the world which was ready to develop WiMAX. Reuters wrote that Taiwan decided to invest US$664 million over the next few years, as it agreed to work with five major manufacturers to develop that technology.

Mobile WiMax in challenge?

A report, conducted by Arthur D. Little, being published by GSM Association and claimed to shred the business case of mobile WiMax in markets where 3G is already in service. Ericsson, as the WiMax opponent, reckons HSPA will have 20 times as many subscribers as mobile WiMax by 2011. At that time the HSPA is predicted to be used by nearly 600 million users, while mobile WiMax will only gain 20 million subscribers.

Korea’s WiBro adopted as global 3G standard

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a global tech policymaking group, has included the South Korea's homegrown wireless Internet technology's WiBro technology as one of its 3G communications standards.

Nokia profited more on Q3 2007

Thanks to the selling of low-cost cellphone in Africa, Middle East, and Asia, Nokia roses up its market share to 39% from 36% last quarter. Nokia makes 1.65 billion euros of profit, compared to 845 million of the same period last year. That will count 85% increasing.

Cellphone soon to be allowed in flight

Passengers, especially in Europe, may soon be able to use their cellphone above 3000 meters high. The regulators around Europe call for consultation regarding the introduction of technology. The European Union has recommended to member states that the plan go ahead and space on the airwaves has been reserved for the technology.

Apple to open iPhone programming to outsiders

Again, Steve Jobs gave-up. Despite his company is not changing a policy that forbids users from unlocking the iPhone to use it with carriers other than AT&T,but Apple now is opening up the iPhone to the independent developers.

MySpace and Skype users can call each other

MySpace and Skype said their users will be able to talk to each other free of charge starting in November. So far, both services have enjoyed phenomenal growth: there are 220 million registered users and MySpace's 110 million monthly users.

Nokia upgrades its Internet tablet

It's the latest addition to Nokia high-end N-series of smartphones. The Finnish phone maker today launched a new Internet tablet, which comes with a slide-out keyboard and a GPS receiver. No WiMAX, but more pocket-friendly.
