Fishermen’s info update via mobile phone in India

Leading network manufacturer, ADC Krone, will team up with India operator Tata Indicom to provide update regarding weather and other information directly to mobile phone. Krone said the initiative has been taken up as a pilot project under the aegis of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation at Veerampattinam in Tamil Nadu and would be followed soon as a commercial service.

Faizabad’s E-gov to go mobile

One area in India, Faizabad, has announced to create e-governance service on mobile phone. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) Gaurav Dayal has launched an initiative, called "Real e-Governance". Recently Dayal has started trials for a project called Anant Sampark by Harnessing Wireless Access (ASHWA), with an aim to establish a practicable e-Governance infrastructure which will connect rural areas with the district headquarter.

Phone is top holiday wishlist for Singapore’s IT company execs

According to the polling by Business Times, nearly one third of 50 IT company bosses surveyed want new phone. Clearly iPhone is becoming one of the most favorite. "I would love to be one of the first in Singapore" to own the iPhone, the newspaper quoted Lui Simhua, vice president of Asia-Pacific at Aspect Software as saying. The city-state is scheduled to taste iPhone in 2008.

KTF to bring iPhone to Korea

Korean operator, KTF, confident to bring iPhone to Korea. KTF plans to sell iPhone by next year. "We want to (sell it in Korea), but Steve Jobs has been playing hard (in the negotiation),'' said Kim Yeon-hak, executive vice president.

Pantech Sky IM-S250L

Korean third largest manufacturer, Pantech, announced their new line up. It is Pantech Sky IM-S250L, a sliding phone with non-heavy specs. It features 1.3 megapixels camera, electronic dictionary, and MP3 player. It also has QVGA screen and Internet radio capability. It will be available yet for Korea market only. NSN conducted 3G-successor network trial

Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) announced to be successful in trying their Long Term Evolution (LTE), next generation network to succeed 3G. In its announcement, Nokia Siemens Networks said it had completed the world's first multiuser field trial of LTE in an urban environment. The trial, which was in Berlin, utilized 20MHz of bandwidth in the 2.6GHz spectrum, which is set for a hotly contested auction in the U.K. next year.

Nokia tablet in top 3 Amazon’s holiday selling

Nokia tablet is proven to appeal US favors. Reported by Amazon, their tablet ranks best in top three holiday selling in PC category, along with MacBook and HP Pavilion Notebook. Nokia opens to cooperate with Apple

Nokia seems admiring Apple a lot. They plan to open to any conversation with Steve Jobs, allowing Apple to sell music via their Ovi web portal, just like iTunes Store. "In Finnish, Ovi means door. And our door is open. Of course, Apple can get into our portal. We even invite (Apple Inc chief executive) Steve Jobs to do so," Vanjoki was quoted as saying. Ovi is a web portal to combine all the music, gaming and navigation services. Source: CNN Money

3GWeek Rumor: Sony Ericsson P5i

The new rumored P series, Sony Ericsson P5i, has been captured in someone's hand. The phone looks quite handy and slim for a smartphone. It is reported to be Symbian 9.1 sliding phone equipped with 2.8 inch VGA display, 5 megapixels CyberShot camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, 160 MB of on-board memory, M2 and microSD slots (like in K850). All operating on a 360MHz CPU.
