2008: Sony Ericsson spotted USA
Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is giving high priority to North America, one of its global weak spots, in 2008, the company’s new president Hideki Komiyama said. Komiyama, who took over from Miles Flint in November, said the Japanese-Swedish joint venture was still interested in emerging markets but would target higher income consumers there, not the very low end of the market.
Komiyama declined to comment in detail on Sony Ericsson’s recent progress as the company is in a quiet period ahead of releasing results, but said, “we see continued momentum. I’m rather optimistic about the quarters ahead.”
Besides US, Komiyama said Sony Ericsson was aiming to attract a growing class of customers with rising incomes in markets such as India and China with phones priced at around $50 and including some extras such as FM radio or music features.
