Nokia buys Trolltech, Motorola gets headache
Finnish giant, Nokia, agreed to buy the Norwegian software maker Trolltech. Trolltech is the creator of Qt and Qtopia, application framework for Linux based system. Why Nokia buy Linux based software developer, while they have Symbian on their own?
One good reason, Nokia is probably widening their area, triggered by the development of Linux-based Google’s Android, to non Symbian platform. Due to lot of third party support for Linux-based application, Nokia may think that diversify their product using Linux based system maybe a good idea. Thanks to slow machine of Symbian-based product, Many users try to avoid Nseries. With this agreement, Nokia holds the key of their Tablet development.
Other reason, that makes Motorola gets headache, Qtopia is embedded in every Linux-based phone they created. This means that the supply is now controlled by their biggest enemy. Like it or not, Motorola is becoming the minority in the jungle of phone manufacturer. Any bet that they will step backward of cellular business before the end of 2008?
