Latest Sony Ericsson clamshell attractions

Last attraction of Sony Ericsson extravaganza are the clamshell phones. One is Walkman, one is fashion phone. Both are equally slim. The W980, is going to be the next ultimate Walkman series. The phone has 8 GB internal memory! Good enough to save up to 2000 songs (approximately 1 song is 4 MB in size).

New cyber-shot models, Sony Ericsson C-series

Next to be revealed are new series for cyber-shot, Sony Ericsson C-series. The introduction of this new line is to differentiate the cyber-shot series from regular K-series. There are 2 new products. They are C702 and C902.

The rumored products finally revealed. The new Sony Ericsson G-series, G700 and G900, hit the public view in Mobile World Congress 2008. The new conservative-looking, touchscreen UIQ smartphones to maintain Sony Ericsson no-competition-yet market. Are these line ups going to replace legendary P-series?

Snow storms in China bring loses for China’s telco companies

Indeed a terrible force majeur, the ongoing snow storms in Southern and Eastern China have caused losses of US$153 million to the telecoms industry, according to statistics from by the Ministry of Information Industry. The industry has allocated around US$70 million to repair damaged infrastructure, and the ministry says that the industry has deployed some 800,000 staff to deal with the crisis. Afghanistan’s Roshan is to launch mobile payment with Vodafone

Afghanistan operator, Roshan, is going to unveil mobile payment service in cooperation with UK giant, Vodafone. Vodafone already built M-PESA that had been implemented in Kenya. Called as M-Paisa in Afghanistan, the service will act mainly as a vehicle for microfinance institutions' (MFI) loan disbursements and repayments, with an additional range of business to business applications such as salary disbursement and airtime distribution.

Telekom Malaysia to increase its share in M1 and XL

Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) yesterday proposed to buy shares in Singapore's Mobile One (M1) and Indonesia's PT Excelmindo Pratama (XL) from Khazanah Nasional Bhd for RM1.58billion. The acquisition of the shares in M1, through buying outright the holding company called SunShare Investment that holds a 29.7% block in M1, would allow TM to strengthen its footprint in Singapore.

Phone signal is claimed not to cause cancer

Phone signal can cause cancer, especially cancer? Indeed the signal spreads out radiation, but can it triggers any cancer risk in human body? A study by scientists in Japan has lain to rest these fears by finding that mobile use does not increase the risk of brain tumours. The tumours that were analysed for in this study were meningioma – the most common benign tumour, glioma - a type of primary central nervous system (CNS) tumour, and pituitary adenoma - tumours that occur in the pituitary gland.

Softbank profit roses as DoCoMo slides down

Japan third largest mobile operator, Softbank, reported that their Q3 2007 profit roses 9.1%. This is a bless as DoCoMo and KDDI profit slides down. Softbank has used a cut-price strategy since buying Vodafone Group Japan mobile unit in 2006 to lure users from bigger rivals NTT DoCoMo Inc and KDDI Corp. In the business year started in April, the newcomer has grabbed more users than its rivals on a net basis, mostly from DoCoMo, which controls more than half of Japan's mobile market.
