KDDI’s W42K battery problem

Famous Japanese network operator, KDDI Corp, had recalled their 214,000 W42K mobile phones from its users in March 28. The customers didn’t get one-to-one replacement though, KDDI and Kyocera - W42K’s manufacturer - will only replace the battery packs. That’s all …
W42K, a music mobile that features mobile ASV liquid crystal and analog TV-capable which being launched in May 22, 2006 is suspected and proved to have a battery problem.
What kind of problem it had? Seriously; some of the battery packs may emit smoke or burst when they are in use or being charged if they are scarred or dented.
The smoke or burst accident happened thirteen times from October 2007 to March 2008.
Hummm … this is an absolutely bad news for KDDI since W42K is considered to be one of their best-selling product which popular with its “au’s Listen Mobile Service (LISMO) “.
