Ernst & Young prediction on TD-SCDMA license
Late 2009, moment when Chinese get their TD-SCDMA commercial license.
Jonathan Dharmapalan, spokesman from Ernst and Young, a global leader company in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services, predicts that licenses for TD-SCDMA will be granted in one or two years forward (2009 or 2010).
He took this view by comparing this technology with what happened to GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) in Europe. Several other analysts also added that the commercial license will be available early in 2009. If these predictions are truth then China Mobile’s ambition - to make TD-SCDMA widely available in August at 2008 Beijing Olympic will be obsolete. Thus, most Chinese will keep using others 3G standard which had also been accepted in China.
Actually, China’s government or even people of China themself has a good purpose in developing their own standard. By owning their 3G standard, China won’t necessarily pay the license fee to American Qualcomm and Co’s annually. Anyway, the cost for this license will huge enough since mobile phone users in China is increasing rapidly.
Such debate, of course is unavoidable, whether to use this standard, which still has a lack in technical but profitable in term of economical, or use others which is the opposite. Hmmm …
