Indian will have iPhone on September
No more illegal iPhone in India, at least till September.
Business Standard, a leading business daily in India reported yesterday that the Apple’s most anticipated little gadget, iPhone will comes on the first week of September.
Indian will then could have their own legal 8 GB iPhone at Rs 27,200 and Rs 28,000 ($680.68), instead of the illegal and internationally-unlock one. However, the term “lock” still becomes mantra here since this Indian version of iPhone will comes with Vodafone inside. What about American AT&T? Apple do not leave them though, in fact this Apple-Vodafone agreement occur under the arrangement of AT&T too.
The decision of Apple to launch this buzzy product in India is not an accidental one. Forecaster said that there will be about 500 million mobile subscribers in India by 2010. While just in this 2008, India had surpassed USA as the second country with the largest mobile subscribers. Jobs’ and Co’s perhaps understand that they need other market besides US or Europe if they want to reach their “10 million units iPhone” sales target by December 2008.
To support this goal, Apple had opened two iStore in India i.e. Mumbai and Bangalore’s southern suburb of Jayanagar and one more in Chennai this August.
If iPhone really takes its debut on India in September, the next question will be, who’s bollywood star will Apple grab as their iPhone endorser. Anyway, this is just a personal opinion from me since Indian is mostly known as not just because they love IT but also, movies. Shahrukh for Nokia, Hrithik for SE, Amir for Samsung, and Abhishek Bachan for Motorola. Now, do you have any suggestion for Apple here?
Note: 3GWeek also had covered iPhone’s debut in Singapore (September) and Australia (June)
