Sony BMG had officially joined Nokia
Sony BMG’s Michael Jackson songs will be ‘free’ for download.
Nokia had gone wild for a couple of days forward. Especially in entertainment. Having launched The 7th Nokia Music Store in Australia yesterday (3:30 AM), this Finnish also announced an agreement with Sony BMG in Comes With Music service 15 hours later (18:30 PM).
Nokia Comes with Music service will allow customers to access the Sony BMG’s music catalog for twelve months. During those 365 days X 24 hours (yeah, thanks for the internet), customers are able to try, taste, and most importantly download ALL music they want whether via Nokia’s mobile phone or PC’s. Luckily, when they have to change their gadget someday in the future, they will still have a RIGHT to move all music files to their new gadget. I see no conflict-with-DRM issues here. Thanks for those Big Boys!
After the subscription period has over, customers still have a chance to do the same thing with all music in the library if only they join to Nokia “unlimited access” (sure this is not a free lunch). In case when they won’t, customers are also be able to purchase a particular music they want via Nokia Music Store.
By signing this agreement, Nokia’s position in entertainment world will become much more powerful, and significant. Of course, after Universal Music and Sony BMG, perhaps there is only one major label in Nokia’s queue; EMI. But this isn’t a big issue since EMI itself actually want to jump in to this wagon too.
When I read the Comes With Music press release; the word “crazy” and “impossible” is what kick my mind first. How could such major label gives Nokia’s customers free access to their huge music for free. It was all till I realized that Comes with Music is more than just a service as-is, yet this can be another good business model too. Whether for Nokia, the devices maker and those major label, the legal music providers.
Regardless all issues surrounding this awesome yet breakthrough service, Nokia itself haven’t tell us about regions that will enjoy this Comes with Music for the first time ever. Anyway, in the second half of 2008, we hope this service could take-off successfully.
Last but not least, allow me to predict that Comes with Music will rise in countries where Nokia Music Store are also available. It means; United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, and lastly Australia. How about Asia? Dare me not to mention it!
If you still confuse with this service, well we can analogue Nokia Comes with Music with Chicken-Buffet Restaurant. Pay it first then enjoy it as you like. The restaurant owner knows that their customers must have a limited stomach quota for their food. Perhaps, Nokia and major labels do too.
