What $6.6 billion mean for USA?
Thinking about entertainment business? Mobile music sales is gonna get crazy.
Analysis, a telecom and mobile business analyst had reported revenue from mobile media and entertainment (MME) in USA. This Cambridge-UK based company showed to us that US MME services (excluding messaging, mobile browsing and data charges) are able to generate US$3.1 billion in 2007. That’s cool and even more cool when they said that this number will double to $6.6 billion in 2012.
There are four factors which could driving market growth. Here they are:
Improvements to service accessibility: mobile Web browsing platforms will improve and facilitate access to off-deck content, and presentation of off-deck content will become more streamlined and user friendly.
Wider availability of content, driven in part by higher-generation network and device penetration.
Improvements to service usability: providers have not focused enough on the end user experience for MME services, and users’ frustration when the experience does not meet their expectations has inhibited the growth of some services.
Simplified and more attractive pricing of MME content and applications, as well as mobile data access: complex pricing, high data charges, and unfavorable revenue sharing arrangements for content providers have inhibited growth in the MME market.
A complete report of this forecast are sold out at $3000 (or GBP1500 plus VAT). Of course, if you’re just an individual user like me just don’t do it.
If only I may jump in to this forecasting report, I want to add some issues at that document such as the birth and growth of BlackBerry, NSeries, Apple iPhone, Smart Phones from HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Palm, and SE. Those manufacturers had gave USA’s users their great products, especially for entertainment with 3G and 3.5G compatibility.
Regardless this Analysys’s report, there is a nice fact from Japan I need to show you here. Based on Music Media Watch:
Total music sales for 2007 in Japan came to JPY 466 billion (US $4.66 billion). While CD/DVD sales declined 4% from the previous year, digital downloads jumped up 41% to JPY 75.5 billion (US $755 million), comprising 16% of all music sold in Japan. Mobile downloads accounted for JPY 68 billion (US $680 million), more than 90% of the total figure for digital sales.
Those Japanese are getting crazy on music. They are such a nice market for Nokia and its Comes with Music service. Just to remember Sony BMG that Sony was born in Japan.
