India beat US in mobile subscribers
More cell phones possibly means more subscribers.
Yet another magnificent achievement by Indian; 261.09 million in wireless mobile subscribers. This number outstep US which count at 257.89 million by today (the end of April). However, this amount of subscribers still a far away from China with its 550 million subscribers.
In this April, India successfully added 10.16 million new mobile subscribers, up from 8.53 million in March. Compared to US with 2 million or even China with 6 to 7 million.
When back to December 2000, probably we couldn’t believe something like this. At that time, India had only 3 million subscribers while US was thirty six times bigger with 109.5 million. Fantastic!
This achievement set India as the world’s fastest growing country in mobile subscribers. Thanks to people at rural area, which gave more significant number for this data than India’s cities. This shouldn’t be such a surprise since 70% Indian out of 1,1 billion population live in rural.
Finally, 2010 is the answer if you’re asking me when would India reach 550 million subscribers just like China. This respond comes from S.C. Khanna; secretary general of The Association of Unified Service Providers of India (AUSPI).
