Globe Telecom bring Mobile TV for Filipinos
First Mobile TV service for Filipinos. Great.
Watching TV via mobile phone actually isn’t a brand new stuff anymore. But perhaps not according to Filipinos. Globe Telecom, Philipphines’ second largest mobile operator (behind Smart Communications, Inc.) now offering Mobile TV service for their users with 3G technology.
With this service, customers will have a chance to watch their favorite TV programs anytime and anywhere inside of Globe Telecom’s coverage areas. Currently, there are six TV channels which divided into two categories; Live Channels and Made-for-Mobile (Non-Live Channels).
Live channels is channels which will show customers exactly the same programming they would otherwise get on a TV set (whether on free-to-air TV or on cable TV). Except for foreign telenovelas which will be replaced by reruns of popular shows. Channels included on this categories are Kapuso Channel, Kapamilya channel, and CNN International.
While Non-Live Channels, like its name, is run either pre-recorded episodes of TV shows, re-runs, or various other related video clips strung together to allow customers to view them in succession. While non-live channels are not “live”, content shown here is not outdated. The clips that run on non-live channels are refreshed regularly (as much as 3x a week). These included the Hub and Sports channels.
To enjoy this service, customers need not to install special software nor specific mobile phone. Just a 3G capable mobile phone. That’s it. For all this enjoyment, customers should thanks to NMS Communications, Globe Telecom’s partner which technology makes mobile TV comes true for the first time ever in Philippines.
