Motorola will lose its 1st place in USA
Can this Rokr Edition help Motorola’s sales?
Ville Heiskanen from Bloomberg had reported that two research firms, IDC and Strategy Analytics said that Motorola may lose its position as US 1st mobile phone manufacturer in term of sales, even before the end of 2008. Both firms analyze that this down turn will be happened since consumers abandon Motorola’s handsets for more advanced models.
Ramon Llamas from IDC said that US consumers will switch to South Korean vendors, Samsung and LG. These Asian giants have received a good reception from most US carriers; AT&T, verizon, Sprint.
Other analyst, Neil Mawston even dare to predict if this 80 years old American company will lose its positions in the second half of 2008. That’s about one month ahead.
Other causes
Besides Samsung and LG, analyst also mentioning Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s Blackberry as the famous Motorola’s RAZR killer in USA. Apple sold about 4 million iPhones last year only in US while RIM had gone pretty wild with 14 million Blackberry subscribers worldwide.
Saving Private Motorola
I’m absolutely sure if Motorola’s workers never stop to struggle. Even until today, consumers in all over the world will meet and greet more and more Motorola handsets. For example; W series, RAZR series, E series, and Z series. Though we couldn’t yet predict the volume of sales from all these gizmos; is it going to be good or not.
From the dashboard of its executive, Greg Brown had made a great decision by splitting Motorola into two divisions; the mobile phone division and wireless-networking equipment division. This two-face company however will take place in 2009.
