Motorola will goes open and social
Does Ming-like handsets and Social Networking is the right choice?
I dare enough to wrote this title after reading two reports from Hindu.com and Tech2 about Motodev 2008.
On May 15, 2008 at Motodev event in Bangalore, Christy Wyatt, Vice President, Software Platforms and Ecosystem of Motorola said, “What we don’t do with developers is fence them in. The idea is to identify innovative ideas, and aid in developing them the right way, so as to leverage on our existing platforms.”
Again to Hindu.com Wyatt said, “For some time to come, we still have to work with multiple platforms like Symbian and Windows Mobile, but there is $1.3 trillion in revenues out there and clearly every one would prefer having to deal with a single standard.”
Why goes open and social?
Perhaps, the sales of Motoming has attracted this 80-years old company to have some business with Linux and opensource world. In China, this handset has become one of the best seller smartphone in 2006 with two million units sold out.
While in social networking case, one of Motorola’s spokesperson said that Social Media and Multimedia are clear winners as far as attention grabbing and useful applications are concerned. This US-based first cellphone company has certainly realized that social networking is todays phenomenon, and now it wants to leverage that to develop mobile applications that will give users just that!
In the next year forward, Motorola seems to behave like Nokia which already playing big with internet service like games, music, movie, maps, and social networking. Paul D Leeper, Director, Business & Marketing Development of Motorola said, “We are interested in redefining technologies. For instance, P2P can be taken to a different level, where instead of saving data on servers, users can save it on the phone and pull content directly off the phone.”
The importance of Motodev
The point of this event for Motorola was to provide developers with more choice in selecting the development environment that best fits with their application needs. These applications of course not only give dollars to its developer but also might attract consumers which in need for a lot various soft wares to boost their productivity via Motorola’s products.
