Kyocera to buy Motorola?

Wow, another conquer of Japan company to the USA? Speculation rumored that one of the large Japan mobile company, Kyocera, are in talk to buy US’ Motorola. Yes, the one who still think that RAZR is still new hype probably will sell its mobile phone division. As the last result showed that the sales keeps declining, why don’t they sell it for a premium offer? We will soon hear a new company that only focus on telecommunication network business.

Earlier this year, Kyocera bought another Japan mobile maker, Sanyo. According to the Wikipedia page, Kyocera was founded in 1959 as ceramics company. They enter telecommunication sector in 2000 as Kyocera Wireless when buying manufacturing operations of American’s CDMA creator, Qualcomm. In April 2008, the acquisition of Sanyo created new company, Kyocera Sanyo. Back then, Kyocera focused on selling CDMA phone. But with the plan of Motorola acquisition, seems like they are ready to enter GSM market globally.

If it does really happen, this will be the end of American phones, since there is no other phone creator than Motorola. For now, the leader of American’s mobile phone selling are Korean duo, Samsung and LG. The new company then will face hard competition from them. With beautiful product from Japanese art, maybe Motorola (or Kyocera Motorola) will have better design, more ammos, and more opportunities to compete.

I believe Carl Icahn who bought Motorola’s 3.6% share in US$ 18.36 per share will not turn down the offer. The MOT price in NYSE is currently being trade at US$ 9.10

Dear Mr Amir, this is a nice analyst. But I’m still hoping that Motorola shouldn’t be bothered with a man called Icahn because Motorola actually is pretty well in manufacturing gizmo. Besides Razr, they still have Rokr, YuVa, Z series, and more.

Oh yeah, you missed something big here:

“If it does really happen, this will be the end of American phones, since there is no other phone creator than Motorola.”

    Well, what about Apple iPhone?

Hi Wim. Apple iPhone is indeed American product. But from my point of view, Apple is still a computer maker, happened to become phone trend creator. Will they ever create more than 20 phone series just like any other phone manufacturers do?

Still, iPhone is a great product though. Salute for Mr Jobs ;)
