Friendster Mobile review (and why people hate it)
We receive lot of complains regarding the implementation of Friendster Mobile. Seems like the new mobile site has not met user’s requirement. Here is one comment from Itha:
Please remove the mobile version.. I’d rather choose desktop version on my mobile phone,because the mobile ver is too simple.. I can’t see comments and testimonial,, can’t update with enjoyable,, and the most important i can not go back to desktop version.. I dissapointeeD.. What’s wrong with frndstr?? I can not find the link to switch back to desktop ver..
And there are 16 more that disappointed with new Friendster Mobile interface. I search about this topic and found there are more people that complain in various sites, like Yahoo Answers. This is not good actually for the business. Friendster is currently behind MySpace and Facebook in social networking members and this issue will bring the member away to their competitors.
I personally have never accessed Friendster from my mobile phone (since I have no PDA or iPhone). Quite amazing that apparently quite number of members are using their mobile (everywhere) to access Friendster. Thus, 3GWeek tries to make a little review about Friendster Mobile and figure out why people hate to use the latest interface.
I try to access Friendster Mobile from both my mobile (using Opera Mini) and my desktop browser. For the screenshot, I take them from my desktop browser. Here is the welcome page of Friendster Mobile. For me, the login page is quite simple but useful.
Here is the home page after we login. The menu lists New Birthdays, New Bulletins, Shoutout, Network Activity, and Search. The link below can bring us to Home, Profile, Friends, Messages, Photos, and Bulletin Boards.
We can see that member cannot access Comments or Testimonials. As we have already premised, this is the major thing why people dislike the new interface.
According to the Help Page, Friendster stated that:
The mobile version has been designed to be used by a wide variety of mobile devices that frequently have small screens and Internet browsers which do not have the same capabilities as a desktop browser. The features most often used by mobile phone users have been included in the mobile version of Friendster.
Apparently Friendster concludes on wrong indication. Members love to comment or give testimonial to their friend’s profile, while Friendster suspects it wasn’t the most often used features by mobile phone users.
There is hope that Friendster offers text message service for any changes, like receive new comment, receive friend request, etc. Unfortunately, the service is currently available in the Philippines only.
When I browse here and there using Friendster Mobile, I found enlightenment. They offer link to switch back to View Desktop Version.
The link works perfectly in desktop browser to bring us back to regular Friendster page. But, my optimistic gone disappear when the link is tested in my mobile browser. It still brought me back to the Friendster Mobile page.
Seems like Friendster has failed us to bring comfortable mobile site version. If the Friendster Mobile page has not included the Comments and Testimonials menu or even better, giving the option to switch back to regular Friendster page, this blunder will probably kill Friendster’s opportunity to compete with other more popular social networking site. Also, members won’t pay back the Friendster smile.

Mobile version are sux. I cant give comment to other friend. I think desktop v more enjoyable and its okay to use more kb to view with desktop v.

Yeah…i hate friendster mobile! I can’t see my testimonials n other things i used to see…i can’t upload photos,and i can’t do anything! I hope friendster will be back like before…

I hate the mobile friendster version. In its feed back, i send a lot of complain. I realy unsatisfied with the always redirecting to m.friendster.com! Ugh! Heyy, where is the friendster social networking idealism? Please. Give me back my cyber social network by putting the desktop version feature correctly! Becoz i just always use my mobile phone to access friendster! And now, i cant do anything with these poor version, bad version, and wrong version of friendster. Please, take it back or develop the mobile version perfectly before launch it! Please..please..please!

Yeah friendster mobile sux, i cn only check my profile thru opera mini & now i cant.. Very disappointed with friendster, i used to love it now i’m hating it! Im moving to my space.. Soon if friendster wont fix this problem i think i’ll quit my friendster..

AGREED, DEFINITELY.
Although the Friendster mobile is easier to use in terms of logging in and the speed of loading, many features are absent in this new and disliked version of friendster.
We cannot view the detailed profiles of our friends or ourselves. We cannot view our testimonials or groups. I am very disappointed that friendster hasn’t fixed this problem given the amount of people complaining.
PLEASE FIX THIS FRIENDSTER TEAM OR PREPARE TO GO DOWN THE LIST OF MOST VISITED WEBSITES.
Many people like me use their cellphones/PDA’s to access friendster. It’s even my homepage! I was planning on getting a better Sidekick just to keep going on http://www.friendster.com from my phone. This has been going on for more than a week now! Many of us would’ve thought you guys fixed this by now. So please, give us some feedback at least. Don’t leave your friendster users hanging!

This has been a problem to me， And of course this sucks, but i hv sent them feedbacks and am just eagerly waiting for their reply. without the ‘real’ version, playing it on mobile isn’t just enjoyable anymore.

Read this FAQ to get the answer:
Friendster has made a number of recent changes to our service to improve your experience and make things faster. One of those changes is to make sure that you are always connected to the fastest server we can provide you at any given moment. This change however means that as you move around on our service, you might be connected to a server that has not been updated with your latest data (like new messages or testimonials) or recent changes you made. The result is that you might see things missing from your profile, or added back to it, until all of our servers are updated with the changes to your profile. One thing you can do is simply usethe refresh button on your browser to reload the page from a different server. Doing this once or more times should bring back your data. We are working on this particular issue right now and hope to have it cleared up soon.

i bought a very expensive phone that has internet access on it so that i can be updated on my friendster account but when i tried to see the page of friendster it makes my blood preasure so high i almost had a stroke. I was so disappointed now i even wanted to crushed my phone. This mobile version is killing me!if i die it is definitely the cause
