Japan to limit cellphone use by children
Hey Nobita, don’t use your cellphone too often please!
This is very interesting, while American view a cellphone problem from the perspective of health (read my Hello Kitty cellphone case), Japanese seems to pick other issue on the same problem; internet abuse.
This is yet another example that cellphone had brought a big impact to Japanese culture (Forget Doraemon and friends era since they didn’t have a chance to use it). A Japanese government panel called on parents and schools Monday to help limit the use of cellphone by children (student aged 7-12) to prevent them from “harmful” information on websites.
What this panel meant with “harmful” is all information that could lead children to become the victim of a crime or bullying. Especially from dating sites and the internet school bulletin boards.
Serious issue which comes from dating site is obvious; the attack from pedophile and a like. While school bulletin boards’ case is occurred because of the abuse of comment from anonymous people which teacher couldn’t manage it. Hey, this is strange, where are all those IT staff?
Do other countries will try the same thing too?
Perhaps yes, but not now I guess since there is a big different between kids in Japan with other kids from another countries. Well, at least if we compare it to other Asian countries.
In Japan, cellphone with 3G technology is so common yet even it is much popular than 2G. This condition of course would facilitate Japanese to enjoy the service on the web via their cellphone, including those dating sites and bulletin boards. The same condition are not yet happened in anywhere else in this world, especially in most of Asia country where the children use cellphone mostly for basic communication device i.e. calling and SMS.
Nobita and friends were surprised because this cellphone limitation.
