Indonesia’s AXIS launches the cheapest data service
Indonesia’s newest GSM and 3G’s operator, AXIS, launches today the new prepaid tariff for data usage: Rp0.1 per Kb for the first 10 Mb every day. The company claims that this is a revolutionary step for the country’s data services, emphasizing that this price is 90% cheaper than the existing tariff offered by other providers.
Prepaid consumers are representing more than 95% the country’s mobile users, and so far, charged between Rp1 - Rp12 per kb for data services (mostly for GPRS usage).
PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler (NTS), as the holder of registered trademark of AXIS, is a national GSM and 3G cellular service provider in Indonesia. The company began operations in Java and Sumatra.
NTS share mostly is owned by Maxis Malaysia. Apparently Maxis’ majority stock is now owned by Saudi Telecom. Thus, this is the first operator in Indonesia indirectly owned by Middle East.
