Samsung SCH-W480 is a SE cyber-shot contender
Samsung SCH-W480 is a camera-alternate gizmo.
Samsung has just launched their Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot contender named SCH-W480. It is a slider phone with 5 MP CCD (charge-coupled device) Camera plus a 3x optical inner zoom lens. As a newbie in digital camera technology, it is better for me to suggest you this excerpt from Wikipedia about what CCD Camera actually is.
CCD cameras used in astrophotography often require sturdy mounts to cope with vibrations and breezes, along with the tremendous weight of most imaging platforms. To take long exposures of galaxies and nebulae, many astronomers use a technique known as auto-guiding. Most auto guiders use a second CCD chip to monitor deviations during imaging. This chip can rapidly detect errors in tracking and command the mount’s motors to correct for them.
And again, this time is about that “Inner zoom lens” from Free Patent Online.
An inner zoom lens system for use in a camera module having an image sensor and appropriate for an inner-focus type is provided. The inner zoom lens system includes, sequentially from an object side, a first lens group, a second lens group, a third lens group, and a fourth lens group. The first lens group is fixed and has minus refractive power. The second lens group has plus refractive power and performs a zooming operation by moving such that an interval between the first and the second lens groups is reduced when zooming from a wide angle end to a telephoto end. The third lens group has minus refractive power and moves such that a position of an image plane is corrected depending the zooming due to the movement of the second lens group. The fourth lens group has plus refractive power.
Well, it sounds rock! Besides that CCD Camera and Inner zoom lens, Samsung has bundled this camera phone with auto-focus and face detection features. Other stuffs will include these sophisticated things as well. A 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, WCDMA/GSM global roaming, Bluetooth, media player and support for microSD memory card up to 8 GB. If you interested with this camera-alternate, get ready to spend some 600,000 KRW or US$ 650 from your wallet.
Note:
This is what I used to call the “megapixel war“.
