China’s Huawei dares to enter Japan’s market

We all know that China made numerous cheap phone market. So cheap that we even can’t understand how they make profit. A phone with dual GSM-CDMA band with TV capability, multimedia, and great connectivity can be bought with less than US$ 250 in price tag. Can you imagine if they enter Japan’s sophisticated market and compete with big phone makers like Sharp, Panasonic, and Sony Ericsson?

Huawei, the largest Chinese telecommunication company, already showed their bravery to set the path. They released their H11HW to fight head-to-head with major successful brands. Do you think they will make it? I don’t know. Not quite sure about that. I think Japanese technology has outperform Chinese’s in many aspects, but their cheapness in price-again-can be a factor to taste a little slice of Japanese market share.

So, what is this H11HW? The Huawei’s jewel is a HSDPA clamshell phone in reasonable price. Of course, their cheap labors can produce these massive products in better price, compared to those which made purely in Japan. Getting interested? What’s this phone specs? Let’s take a look at what H11HW has inside:

  • HSPA/W-CDMA 1700 MHz, with up to 3.6 Mbps (for downstream) and up to 384 kbps (for upstream)
  • 49.5 mm x 97.8 mm x 17.5 mm in size
  • 105 grams in weight
  • 2 megapixels camera in the back with VGA quality camera in front, can be used for video call
  • 2 inch TFT internal display, 1 inch OLED external display
  • 60 MB internal memory with expandable microSD cards up to 2 GB
  • Bluetooth 1.2 and USB 2.0 for PC-mobile connectivity
  • Apps: media player, alarm clock, calendar, calculator, currency converter and values, the list of tasks, voice recorder, notes, world time, stopwatch, timer

So, see something special there? Not much actually. For your information, this phone is officially released on June 14. The carrier is Emobile, quite new player in Japan mobile market. Currently Emobile has 500 thousand subscribers, which makes Emobile the smallest in term of market share. As comparison, NTT DoCoMo has 53.5 millions users.

As I said above, the main attraction of the phone is its “reasonable price”. How reasonable this phone can be? Emobile offers H11HW for almost 30 thousands Yen (or US$ 280) without contract or almost 6000 Yen (or US$ 56) for two years contract with “Shin Ninen” data plan. With Japan’s high cost of living, I think that price is really cheap.

It is like China’s invasion as a revenge for Japan’s colonial in World War II. Still, let’s wish Huawei a very great luck to broke into Japan’s market barrier.
