Nokia acquired Symbian

Symbian Foundation will be Nokia’s next hot property!

When Nokia acquired a social-activity service provider like Plazes yesterday, this blog remained silent. But today, when this giant Finnish announced that it has launched a cash offer to acquired Symbian Limited, we won’t! To complete this acquisition, Nokia need about 264 million euro (US$410,563,241.02). This is equal to approximately 52% of Symbian Ltd. which they don’t have it yet.

Currently, four Symbian major shares holder such as Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ), Panasonic Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. and Siemens International Holding BV had accept the offer. However, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. haven’t done similar thing yet, but it seems that Nokia pretty optimist that this Korean will also accept this agreement.

Evidently, this offering is a long term strategy from Nokia to challenge two rising stars in mobile operating system platform; Apple iPhone SDK and Google Android SDK. Both of them have gaining a strong acceptance among mobile developers worldwide. Moreover, hey guys, they are free aren’t they?

Still, I am not sure enough whether this acquisition is going to work well or not, but based on some of Nokia’s previous acquisitions (Navteq and Trolltech), it looks like that they will did it again. With a tougher effort this time. I warn you Nokia, you are challenging (or has being challenged by) two of the most powerful brand in this earth, Apple and Google.

What end-users must do?

For audience or end-user like us, don’t worry, whoever lose, we win. They’re free and just great! Let’s choose it and use it! Pick one that suit you most!
