592 million Chinese citizen now has a cellphone

On March 17, 2008, I published a post about the amount of cellphone users in China which had reached 555 million at that time. That number was equal to 41.72% of China’s 1,3 billion total population.

How about today? Not on that number anymore! Well, just like most analyst had predicted before, the number had jumped to 592 million or 45 percent of China’s 1.3 billion population.

Cause

On the previous quarter, that 41.72% percentage was credited to the cellphone manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung, and some of local players (Huawei and Haier) which provide China’s market with low cost cellphone. But now, it seems that this strong increase is acknowledged to mobile operators in China such as China Mobile and China Unicorn which dare to cuts their service rate in a significant number.

Consequences

As always, this increase had dropped up the amount of China’s fixed-line users to 358 million.
