Samsung Instinct made a sales record!

Samsung Instinct, touch screen cell phone which can be dubbed as the iPhone of Sprint, has become a hit in USA’s store on the first week of its sales. Pali Research analyst, Walter Piecyk said that twenty-eight out of a hundred stores had five or fewer in stock while eleven of those 28 had run out. In addition, Piecyk also said that one store had sold more than 600 handsets. According to Sprint itself, Samsung Instinct made a historic record in the first day sales and the first week sales among its CDMA 200 1x EVDO handsets released by the company.

Two things that made this happen

The reasons for this unpredictable sales result are quite easy enough to be revealed though. There are two main answer here. First, Samsung Instinct itself is obviously a good touch screen cell phone. As a proof, this US$130 handset had won the CNet CTIA 2008 Best Cell phone. No wonder if customers (I bet they were the Sprint’s own customers) don’t mind to grab it without having to wait the AT&T’s 3G iPhone d-day on July 11th.

Second, Sprint’s aggressive marketing strategy. To make such an impression beyond this gadget, Sprint has made some special web site that totally cover all good thing it can do. I myself had felt in love at the first time I visit this website, especially the nowisgood.com. In nowisgood, Sprint show (foolishly) us how their 3G-powered Instinct may knock 2G iPhone off in less than 10 rounds. Yeah, of course it did. But it was a month ago. Now, the url will be redirected to new url www.instinctthephone.com. With a brand new cool design and content.

A $10.000 YouTube Contest to support the Instinct buzz! Cool ..

Aside from this website, Sprint is also running a $10,000-contest on YouTube for every video their Instinct’s users had uploaded. Frankly speaking, for the first 1000 contestants, Sprint dare to debit them with $20 (15% of Instinct price tag). Wow, no wonder if people got busy to welcome this device.

A cynicism

This news seems to be a good deal for Sprint’s life. However, I personally don’t really impress by this announcement since Sprint still don’t want to reveal their exact result number of this survey. You know what, I’m just afraid that this exact number is not too far from 1000 buyers. Hey, they just want to get that $10.000 grand prize. I want that too.
