Android on Nokia N810 Internet Tablet
This is what hacker used to do again and again. Yes, they had unlocked the 2G iPhone. Soon to hit that 3G iPhone and before that happen, they had done it with Android and Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.
Somebody in Internet Table Talk Forum are the guys who responsible for this hacking show time. They proofed that N810 users now are able to install and enjoy Android’s features like touch screen, browser, and Maps.
Here is the step by step guidance to do it.
- Download android.img.bz2 from here to the tablet’s memory card.
- Download and install android-installer.deb from here or here.
- Reboot and hit the Android icon that will have appeared in the Nokia’s extras menu.
Android = Linux
Seeing such “quick dirty thing’ like this may remind me to Linux! No matter what the device is, as long as it has a technically-supported processor then it might be suit with Torvald’s baby too. What made myself interested on this stuff is how will Nokia’s engineer respond with this kind of art. Will they struggling to make Nokia’s device as close as possible so that nothing could work in it but Symbian? or perhaps, the sweet second option, to keep their device as open as possible so that not only Android could work on with their device but also other OS too. Let say, OS X, Blackberry OS, etc.

I wonder, do you understand that N810 tablet goes off Nokia’s factory conveyor belt as Linux machine? and hence, installing android over linux machine does not constitute any signs of tech-art or über-hacker-dom, huh?
