Indonesia-Malaysia money transfer: just SMS!

There are about 66% of foreign labors in Malaysia that are from Indonesia. Most of them are living in under-banked area, make themselves difficult to transfer their money-overseas payment-to their homeland. But as research tell, every family in under-banked area has at least 1 cellphone. Can they use the cellphone to transfer their money back home?

Absolutely! Com2U Sdn Bhd will provide such service, named MoneyMe. Com2U is an operator-independent mobile remittance service. They currently in cooperation with Maxis and DiGi (with Celcom about next month) to transfer money from Malaysia to Indonesia using SMS.

How is the procedure? It is very easy. Here are the step-by-step procedure on how sending money though SMS:

  1. Register and subscribe via SMS for free
  2. Go to outlet with e-pay facilities and load desired amount into MoneyMe. E-pay facilities can be found at numerous bookstores, convenient stores and restaurants nationwide
  3. Subscribers are allowed to transfer up to RM50,000 (more than US$ 15,000) a day and are charged a processing fee from as low as RM9 (US$ 2.75)
  4. The beneficiary will be notified with a text message identifying the amount and sender of the funds and it can be cashed at any Pos Indonesia agents

Com2U has made strategic partnership with PT Ebays, an authorised marketing distributor of Duit Pos Multiguna Service in Indonesia to allow beneficiaries to withdraw funds at Pos Indonesia outlets with the Wesel Pos Instant Service, a remittance service found in Indonesian post offices.

In the future, Com2U plan to expand this business to cooperate with several Indonesian bankings. Thus, it will guarantee more save money sending and of course to gain more subscribers.
