Will iPhone 3G crack Asian market?
iPhone 3G is going to be launched in a matter of days. Japan and Hong Kong are two lucky Asian countries (or teritories, considering HK is part of China) that will be the first to grab this phenomenal phone. Is iPhone 3G is ready to conquer Asian market?
One thing to be considered is Asian people is very trendy and hype-savvy, means that every new thing or new trend will be everyone’s wishlist. In order to gain major hit, iPhone needs local marketing expert to promote their new baby. A student said in Hong Kong, “I want to get one because it is trendy. It has a touch screen, it looks pretty and it’s made by Apple.”
Since Apple is highly respecting in Asia, I think the sales will reach expected profit. “It is going to do well,” says Aloysius Choong, of Singapore-based industry research group IDC. Singapore is one country that will follow other Asian countries to enjoy Apple iPhone 3G, along with Phillipines, Australia, Qatar, and Jordan.
One thing to be concerned is that the threat of jailbraking. We all know that Asian people is really handful in this area. I believe, the iPhone 3G will be cracked any soon from Hong Kong area first, not from the US.
Also, Apple needs to open more eyes to Japan market. iPhone 3G specs is not superior, compared to local products. iPhone can’t view DMB TV or use RFID to pay anything Japan people use to do. “I can foresee the iPhone storming the rest of Asia but not Japan,” said Yusuke Tsunoda, a telecom analyst at Tokai Tokyo Research Centre.
Whatever the result goes, people in Indonesia is still yet unsure to taste iPhone 3G legally. When? Until iPhone 4G be launched?
