Google’s Android VS Sprint and China Mobile

Now this is a sad news for all Android fans out there, especially those developers. According to WSJ which I cited from SDA Asia Mag, Google’s single mobile platform will not have its own “body” till 2009. Well, at least that’s what WSJ got from sources that familiar with this project. Ughhh …..

Sprint and China Mobile VS Android

The same sources also told that two majors mobile carriers, USA’s Sprint and China’s China Mobile will not likely to launch their Android-based handset till 2009.

Sprint’s reason for this delay is pretty political for me though. It is stated that they don’t want to obsessively launch this handset this year because of the Android’s built-in services itself, i.e. Google services. As we may already know that most mobile carriers are prefer to use their own branded features, including Sprint itself.

If Sprint’s delay reason is quite political than China Mobile’s one perhaps surely technical. The sources said that the world’s biggest mobile carriers is delaying this launch because of the difficulty in translating Roman characters in the Android software into Chinese.

Developers are in trouble

Not just mobile operators, developers are also stressing a bit with Google’s new baby. The reason is quite common for all those platform developers I guess. Google, as the “maker” of this platform is still struggling to improve it totally. Therefore, there could be such change to its core basically. This policy of course will discomfort those Android developers to playing around with their idea with this new platform.

Android, which is licensed with Apache open source license, has generated a lot of buzz around blogosphere in 2007 and 2008. Especially when many people had assumed that Google would launch their own handset called GPhone! But thankfully, it is not a handset that comes from Google yet a SDK. Google itself had said that there will be a device which comes with Android inside in the second half of 2008. Sadly to told, they might be wrong.
