One million 3G iPhone and some weirdos

Yesterday, 14 July 2008, or just four days after the 3G iPhone first sales debut, Apple announced that they has sold 1 million new 3G iPhone. Wow, now that is a wow! It means that they could sold about 250.000 3G iPhone on each day. Again .. amazing. Back in 2007, the original iPhone could reached the same point after waiting for about 74 days or more than two months.

Things that made this happened!

Well, there are a couple of reason why such record could be broke just in four days. In fact, in Apple’s case, I think it will be quite easy for us to mention that factors one by one. So here we go.

1. Cheaper

Well, I know that the 3G iPhone is not truly cheap or cheaper than the 2G version. But setting this device’s price with 60% lower price tag than the previous version has made Apple succeed in changing people mental set. Formerly, we used to know and assumed that a magnificent device like this surely would be an expensive or high-end one. But with the new basic price that start at $199, of course it wouldn’t be any.

Now, the 3G iPhone is no more a kind of cellphone which exclusively made for the executive or white collar guys out there. Yet it is a mass cellphone which your grand parents and your kids may also want to having fun with it.

Now let me repeat this; cheaper. This is the first mantra.

2. Faster yet Flexible

3G iPhone now comes with HSDPA technology. Compared to the old EDGE, of course HSDPA is much faster. However, what people love from Apple is that they don’t set this faster HSDPA as the only standard inside for iPhone. Yet, they combine it with EDGE as well so that when the 3G is not available, people still could surfed the web by using the EDGE. Marvelous.

And this decision is totally true since even in a high-tech country like USA with its giant AT&T, there are still some areas which the 3G networks haven’t been established yet. Bravo Apple!

3. Apps

By opening their online App store officially, 3G iPhone’s users would easily know that gadget which they’re obsessively bought is not a dead one! Instead, it will be a live and complete one with the availability of hundreds or thousands of apps which they can download it via the device itself.

In this case, let’s think of the combination between PC and the MS Windows OS. People bought those perfect couple (at least in term of quantity) mainly because the availability of software which could help them to solve their tasks.

4. Worldwide availability

Previously, Apple sold iPhone in some certain countries such as USA, UK, England, France, and Canada. But now, the path has been changed completely. The 3G iPhone is not just ready for those countries up there but it is also flying down through all the five continents. Means that our brothers in Africa and Asia will have a chance to have some fun with this touch screen device.

5. Thanks to us!

Apple should thank to blogs and bloggers like us. Million of words (or perhaps billion) has been created to spread the beauty and oddity of iPhone. Though each of these blogs are vary in term of quality and readership, but the message is clear, they present us the iPhone! Yeahh … come on Steve, give us some acknowledgment here (just kidding).

At the moment when I wrote this post, searching for “iPhone” in Technorati would gave me about 197,867 posts. While with Google Blog Search, the result was bigger with approximately 4,311,909 posts.

Some weirdos

When I searched the term “Nokia” in Google Blog Search, the machine gave me 3,581,000 posts. It is of course, a 730.909 lesser result than the iPhone. In Technorati, the result for “Nokia” query is even much lower. It only accounts about 79,102 search result.

Have you already caught something here? If you want more data about this, please wait for me on the next post. Only in here; 3GWeek!
