Buy the unlocked iPhone 3G via Alibaba

There are no days without iPhone 3G. Well, seven days ago I had published a post about folks in China called FuriouSim who want to pay you about $600 for your locked iPhone 3G. Yes, they want to unlocked it up! While back to two days ago, an American yakuza Gangster named iPhone-Dev Team claimed that they have hacked the second generation of Apple’s only cellphone. And now, for the good of blogosphere and iPhone 3G’s buzz, somebody in Alibaba have sold this multi touch screen device in an unlocked mode with only US$1000. Wow!
Just who are those guys who dare to act like this in such a popular place like Alibaba? The answer is Hong Kong’s Union Camera, Ltd. Who are they? Check this out for a while.

Anyway, I still smell some strange product offering here. In their Alibaba page, they said that ….. ugghhh forget it. If you want to know what I mean, please read this material from Uberphones.
The picture is a little confusing though, as it states the “Minimum order quantity” as USD1,000. So it’s either that you have to pay $1,000 for the iPhone 3G, or order 1,000 units of these iPhones.
And again, but this time is from one of Engadget commentator regarding the same issue.
The author of this article has opted for a poor choice of words here.
Just how does “the weird and wacky copyright laws of Hong Kong” have anything to do with the iPhone 3G being available network-lock-free?
For those people who may be unaware of this, the iPhone 3G models being sold in Hong Kong are *not* locked out-of-the-box, or even after iTunes activation. This is a policy of the Hong Kong operator, Hutchison (aka 3 Hong Kong), who is exclusively selling the handset in the local market.
Therefore, to say this has anything to do with the local “laws” of Hong Kong is simply misleading, which are far from being “weird and wacky”. I take great offence at such a statement, whatever tone or manner it may have been presented in - and I believe I speak for many people when I say this.
Note to author: It might be wise, and most definitely appropriate, for you to do some research before coming to unsubstantiated conclusions about facts and issues. Being prejudgemental is not, and should not be, the act or practice of a responsible writer - or blogger, in your case.
So iPhone 3G, the phone of controversy! Do you agree?
