iPhone 3G goes to Indonesia. Almost Official!
Actually, I used to put the word “Rumor” in front of a post like this. But now, I use “Almost official“. Wonder? Well, the answer is easy; the source of this news is my own managing editor in this blog - 3GWeek, Mr. Budi Putra. You know what? He is hardly to be categorized as a rumor-monger since he worked for CNet Asia. This is a place where you won’t get such a leaked “iPhone pictures” or “Blackberry Thunder”, etc.
A two months history
On May 30th, 2008, Mr. Budi Putra had published a follow-up post regarding the arrival of iPhone 3G to both Macau and Hongkong entitle “Hutchison to offer iPhone in Indonesia?“. In that post, he tried to convince us that there is a big chance for Indonesian to get the same iPhone from Apple as well as another South East Asia countries like Singapore and Philippines. His main alibi at that time was Hutchison, which brought iPhone to Macau and Hongkong, is also doing business in Indonesia.
Here is the excerpt of this statement.
So, since it already launched its own cellular service here, there is a possibility for Hutchison to bring iPhone to Indonesia.
However, at the same time, Mr. Budi Putra also brought up such a hesitant regarding this issue. So instead picking up Hutchison 3 as the single carrier that would bring iPhone 3G to Indonesia, he also suggested that there is a chance that Telkomsel, Indonesia’s largest mobile carriers, will become Apple’s partner to sell their iPhone there.
Budi Putra got it!
Okay, now let’s get to the point! Two days ago, he wrote in CNet Asia that he just got a “secret information” from his colleage who works close to Telkomsel. That guy said like this:
“Telkomsel will offer iPhone 3G here. It’s almost confirmed.”
Nah, I hope you know what this sentences mean. If only you’re one of BGR fans out there, perhaps this is what they called as “Ninja”. Well, in BGR, of course they have already some Ninjas such as “Blackberry Ninjas”, “AT&T Ninjas” and “Motorola Ninjas”. Ha .. ha …
Again, to make this information even more valid (see, Mr. Budi Putra is an anti-rumor I guess), he also asked the same issue to one of the Telkomsel execs. And just guess what he got. That executive just smiled and said: “We pray for this.”
In Bahasa Indonesia, that last sentence above could be:
“Insyaallah, doakan saja ya.”
Wow, Awesome! Hey iPhone come to papa honey.

Well, let’s pray to god and cross our fingers shall we?
if iPhone 3G comes to Indonesia with subsidized price there will obviously blood on the street.
Unfortunately, Telkomsel is famous for “revolutionary yet pricey”. I trully doubt Telkomsel could make such subsidized deal.
So……i hope the next post about this phone & telkomsel will be the announced (or rumoured) price. It’s not market-able anymore if Telkomsel sold this phone with a $700 pricetag like in India.
