No Nuvifone till 2009
Garmin, Inc., the world famous GPS device manufacturer, has announced on their quarterly conference call yesterday that they will not selling their Nuvifone this year. Instead, this device will roll out on the first half of 2009. The issues which Garmin have to contend here is the wireless carriers.
In January 2008, the month when Garmin introduced Nuvifone for the first time, this Kansas-based company has told people that Nuvifone will be launch and sell as an unlocked mobile phone. However, it seems that those wireless carriers are very interested to adopt and have some business with this GPS-centric mobile phone. Hence, it has forced Garmin to change their initial plan.
Ted Garner, Garmin’s spokesperson, said that releasing a handset with a carrier will require such certification and optimization, and this eventually lead to delay.
Well, no wonder if some people are in a great desire to pick Nuvifone since this gadget is perhaps the most powerful GPS-centric cell phone out there. Here are some features to describe what Nuvifone will look like.
- slim form factor
- 3.5-inch touch screen
- Google’s local search application to find nearby venues based on a user’s location
- integrated GPS chip
- maps of North America and Europe
- audible directions
- camera that can automatically geo-tag photos
- receiving and sending e-mails
Hmmm, I think Bruce Wayne should buy this mobile phone for his next fight then install it on his Bat Mobile or other Bat vehicles. Do you agree with me? But wait, do they also provide Gotham City maps in that device?
