Qualcomm wanted to create an iPhone competitor using Android

Qualcomm, a 23 years old-American wireless company is planning to create an iPhone competitor using Google’s Android. Sanjay Jha, Qualcomm’s COO said that his company expect to inject their technology platfrom into Android-powered device, Google’s open source mobile OS.

Fortunately, it is still unclear what platform will this CDMA inventor use for those devices. Qualcomm’s latest chipset platform code name Snapdragon has not been confirmed yet to be Android devices’ chipset. Although among other two platforms that this company also has - Goby and QST, Snapdragon is the most promising and suitable one.

Currently, Qualcomm is sitting as a member of Open Handset Alliance (OHA), a group of more than 30 companies who are committed to deploy handsets and services using the Android platform. Besides Qualcomm, OHA also consist of Qualcomm’s rivals in chipset manufacturing such as Texas Instruments, Broadcom Corporation, Intel Corporation, and Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. Hence, still it won’t be easy for Sanjay Jha and Co’s to be a mogul in this new environment.
