Windows Mobile phone sales is missed by 2 million

If you are targeted 20 million unit sales, then you only reach 18 million, what would you do? Are you going to blame it to anyone else? Microsoft reported that its Windows Mobile licenses (for PDA phone and smartphone) are sold for “only” 18 million this June 2008 (from July last year)-missed about 2 milion from their 20 million target-thanks to the phone launch delay from handset maker.

Xperia is one phone that is missed to meet schedule this second quarter, thus lower Microsoft’s sales in total. Xperia is the long awaited Sony Ericsson phone that will become the first SE phone powered by Windows Mobile.

The iPhone 3G hype also gives contribution to Windows Mobile’s unreached target. Yet, 18 million licenses for a year is a huge number. Probably one of the biggest selling in smartphone category (of course still under Nokia domination). For next year, Windows Mobile 7 will become Microsoft weapon to fight against iPhone 3G, Google Android, and Blackberry series.
