Steve Jobs: MobileMe doesn’t meet Apple Standard

What’s Steve Jobs response about the chaos made by MobileMe? He sent internal email for all Apple employees that he acknowledges MobileMe service hasn’t meet Apple Standard and shouldn’t be launched at same time with the iPhone 3G.

According to its Wikipedia page, MobileMe is a subscription-based collection of online services and software offered by Apple Inc. Announced at WWDC 2008, it replaced the .Mac service on July 9, 2008. All existing .Mac members were migrated to MobileMe automatically.

The MobileMe service includes storage, mail, address book and calendar, photo gallery, iDisk, iWeb Publish, and web applications.

Steve Jobs said:

It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store. We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence.

As effect of “this incident”, Jobs reorganize the MobileMe team. The entire group will now report to Eddy Cue. Cue will be responsible for all Internet-related activities-including iTunes, App Store, and now MobileMe-and will report directly to Steve Jobs.

Yet, for Jobs himself, MobileMe is still giving something potential as Internet service. He added:

The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services. And learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year.
