Optus Australia: new 3G software upgrade, failed in Brisbane

Upgrading a software to newer version may bring two condition. If succeed, it will enhance the software capability and provide wider features. If not succeed, disastrous condition may apply, like what has recently occured in Australia. Optus were in progress of upgrading its 3G software platform, provided by Nokia Siemens Network, when failure happened.

System in several area is down. Optus could roll back its system in Melbourne and Sydney, but not in Brisbane. Until now, Optus subscribers in Brisbane can’t do anything with their mobile connection. The network in Brisbane was online at 7 AM but went offline an hour later. At 4 PM systems went down again.

Consumer may eligible to file a legal action against the operator, yet the operator itself is about to review its service level guarantee agreement with NSN-Finland-German joint company, as the engineers from both companies are working together to fix the problem as soon as possible.

Optus has asked NSN to fly out their best engineers to solve the problem. Optus is currently the second largest mobile operator in Australia.
