WiAV sues Apple, RIM, Palm over some GSM patents
Seems like not only T-Mobile, Samsung, and Motorola that has legal problem. A company named WiAV Solutions (never heard of them) sues big name like Apple, RIM, and Palm for some GSM patents. There are 10 patents in total, of which WiAV actually has 2 and exclusive licensee for the rest 8 from Mindspeed.
The patents include detecting the difference between silence and voices, mobile device power management, and altering music to accommodate voices. There is no information released by big companies. Seems like they don’t happy with these lawsuits.
For me, it is quite strange for an unknown company, like WiAV, suddenly sues number of successful companies. I think the motive is not far from money thingy. By the way, I found difficulty in finding WiAV’s official site. Wondering why a company that has so many GSM-related patents doesn’t have its own domain name.
