Classic Marketing Strategy: The Walking Nokia 3315
Look at this! What a cool marketing strategy by Nokia.
Wow, I am so amaze to see this photo and I encourage you to do so. Not only because it is funny. But also because the main object inside. Do you know what Nokia series is that? Yes you got that. It is the N3315; monochrome, candy bar, fat, midi composer, heavy, thick, and it’s just works. All right!
This Nokia series used to be my first cellphone ever. My uncle gave me this stuff as a reward because I could pass a test in UGM, one of the most reputable university in my country. Unfortunately, somebody had stolen it a couple years ago in a public bus in Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
But wait a minute. Is there any relation between this photo with a blog like 3GWeek? Of course it is! With this photo, I also want to show you the Nokia’s marketing team creativity on selling their product. Look at that photo once again, pay attention to it. Now see, Nokia had put out this series at the right place; in a rural areas. The place where this handset’s target audience used to walk and hang out.
Honestly, I think Nokia or even other manufacturers should consider to implement this marketing strategy in Indonesia or other countries too, especially which have the similar condition like India. Putting a handset figurehead along the road or street may attract its prospective customers to find out more about it. Whether by searching it through internet or asking their relatives. Later, chances are that they will buy this handset.

This marketing strategy by Nokia might work for other countries, but might not work for some.
Any promotional strategy may differ depending on the type of target, the demographics, and the time when the campaign will be launched. Of course, if you’re planning to launch a campaign in a “techy” country, an SMS mobile marketing campaign might be more effective.

@MayR, thanks for your opinion.
I do agree with u. Don’t use the same marketing strategy obsessively, right? About SMS Mobile marketing, i haven’t experienced it in Indonesia anyway. But for this case, that walking N3315 series is definitely worth to be tested here.
