IBM’s new software for mobile workforces

Seems like mobile technology is getting more attention from technology giants. Now it is for IBM-the big blue-to unveil their concept and product in mobile area. The basic data used by IBM is the fact that 67% of all workers today is using mobile devices and wireless computers and mobile Internet users will reach 1 billion this year. Drew Clark, director of IBM’s Venture Capital Group said, “The mobile Web represents one of the largest emerging market opportunities we’ve seen in a decade.”

IBM initiates their step by creating consulting called Mobility@Work. It claims can help businesses increase employee productivity by as much as 30% by making workers more productive at home or on the road.

Next, IBM creates mobile version of WebSphere Business Monitor-software which can alert users in real time to business events such as sales or new orders. The software is now available for Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and Symbian; while iPhone support will be available by the end of year.

Also, the big blue introduced a version of its Rational Business Developer toolset that’s designed to let developers create Web 2.0-style applications for use on mobile devices. The software lets developers code in IBM’s new Enterprise Generation Language.

The last one is the plan of making Lotus Notes email client to work for iPhone. Wow, this is a big step for New York based software giant. This action affirms the importance of mobile technology in future world. May IBM get succeed on trying a new area of expertise.
