mobile phone news, reviews & tips

HTC Dream to be launched on October 13th at $199

Look at the price tag. If only this breaking news from TMO World is true then people in Asia will have one more reason not to drop their money on the overpriced iPhone 3G. However, note that T-Mobile will also tie up this handset with 2-years contract, a specified data plan, and a Gmail account. So still, be careful buddy.

Check this excerpt about HTC Dream’s data plan and contract:

I heard I had to have an expensive feature added on to my plan, that’s a deal breaker for me!

Actually, a feature will be required, but it’s not expensive at all. To features will be available for the device, the first will be $35 and will include Unlimited Data & Messaging. If you thing about it, T-Mobile currently offers Internet for 20 buck and Messaging for 15 buck (20+15=35) so really its actually the same price. They will also offer a $25 feature that will include Unlimited Data & 400 Messaging for those people who don’t do much messaging.

Will I have to sign a contract?

Yep! During pre-order at least, a 2 year contract will be required to purchase this phone. There will be no 1 year option and full cost option during the pre-order so those who were planning to get this phone but avoid a contract will have to wait and see if those options will be available at the official launch date.

And finally, this is what I have been waiting for so long. An official (90%) phone specifications of HTC Dream aka GPhone:

  1. Touch Screen
  2. Full QWERTY keyboard
  3. 3G/ WiFi
  4. Full HTML internet capabilities
  5. Easy access to all Google applications (Gmail, Gtalk, search)
  6. Maps
  7. Street view
  8. You Tube
  9. Phone
  10. IM/Text
  11. Email
  12. Camera 3.0 MP

  14. Music player & 1GB memory card pre-loaded
  15. Applications, all available in Google marketplace (icon on the home screen)

Anything missed?

Look, there are no specific GPS features included. So let’s hope that Google Maps can tackle this function seamlessly. Hey, it seems that the video rumor is a fake one right?
