Greenpeace: Nokia, the most ecofriendly electronics maker
It is no suprise that Nokia grabs the number one position of the most ecofriendly electronics maker, ranked by Greenpeace. Its Skandinavian root has long experience of dealing with environment in friendly way. Nokia scores 7 out of 10 in report of company’s policies regarding chemicals, waste and energy. In other hand, Japanese game maker, Nintendo, is still in the lowest bottom with 0.8 of 10 scale.
Nokia has held this title for years, thanks to its project in India where consumers can return their old cellphones to the maker for free. Greenpeace said in the report:
Nokia scores very well on toxic chemical issues, launching new models free of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) since the end of 2005 and aiming to have all new models free of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and antimony trioxide (a chemical flame retardant) by the end of 2009.
Nokia ahead Samsung and Sony Ericsson for fellow mobile manufacturers. Samsung and Sony Ericsson each scores 5.7 and 5.3 respectively. Greenpeace unveils its report about ecofriendly electronics maker since August 2006 and this is the 9th time. The report ranks leader in cellphone, computer, TV, and game console market to show the world how this company regulates their chemical waste.
